9,000 Marikina families get security of tenure
Some 9,000 families in Marikina City have attained their security of land tenure through the help from the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC), paving the way for the city to become 70 percent free from illegal settlers, Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro said.
“Matatas ko pong masasabi na wala na kaming illegal settlers dahil sa aming mga proyekto para sa mga tao, at lalo na dahil sa tulong nga SHFC (I can proudly say that we no longer have illegal settlers because of our projects, and especially due to the help of the SHFC,” Teodoro said.
Speaking at the 31st anniversary of the Community Mortgage Program (CMP), the SHFC’s flagship initiative, in Pasay City on Wednesday, Teodoro said 70 percent of the community associations in Marikina have already attained their security of land tenure.
“Since 1992, of the 246 community associations in Marikina, 166 or almost 70 percent already attained security of land tenure. This translates to more than 9,000 families who were aided by the SHFC,” he said.
“Itong siyam libong pamilya pong ito na inyong natulungan ay masaya at tahimik ngayon na naninirahan, walang pangambang baka minsan ay matanggalan ng matutuluyan o masisilungan (These 9,000 families that you have helped are happy and peacefully living without the fear of being evicted),” he added.
Teodoro congratulated the SFHC in their anniversary. He also noted that Marikina has been a partner of the SHFC for almost 27 years in improving the living conditions of the homeless and under privileged through affordable financing.
During the event, Sen. Francis “Tol” Tolentino lauded Teodoro and the Marikina City government for its effort in improving the lives of their residents by providing them with residential lots.
Meanwhile, lawyer Arnolfo Ricardo Cabling, president of the SHFC, said the coordination with local governments plays a very important role in their work of providing resilient and sustainable communities to people.
