DOH recognizes Marikina for ideal vaccination facility

Marikina City’s Pfizer COVID-19 facility was lauded by the Department of Health (DOH) for being ideal for the temperature-sensitive vaccine, according to a report by Manila Bulletin.

The fully air-conditioned vaccination facility for Pfizer was built by the local government unit (LGU) of Marikina in the city’s sports center.

Dr. Amelia Medina, medical officer of the Department of Health-National Capital Region (DOH-NCR), commended the vaccination facility and said that it is ideal for the Pfizer vaccine.

“This one is very ideal place for Pfizer vaccinations, the temperature, ‘yung environment. Makikita niyo po, napakaayos, may social distancing (As you can see, it is very organized),” she said during DOH’s inspection on Wednesday (May 19).

“Ang gusto na lang po natin iparating sa iba ay sana po lahat ay ganoon sa Marikina. Bago po sila nagbakuna ng Pfizer vaccines ay pinakita muna nila sa amin (What we really want to say is we hope other local government units will do what Marikina City did—before they vaccinated the Pfizer vaccines, they showed us first).”

Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro said the local government has established a specialized vaccination facility for the Pfizer vaccines in order to comply with the jab’s stringent requirements.

According to the mayor, the national government has allocated 5,700 doses of Pfizer vaccines to Marikina City.

Due to the recent incidents of people flocking to vaccination sites in other cities, Teodoro said no walk-ins will be allowed in the city’s inoculation site in order to avoid such chaotic scenarios.

Residents must pre-register online and wait for a text message from the LGU, he added.

The dilemma of other cities is that more people prefer Pfizer vaccine over other brands. This caused people to troop to vaccination sites administering the Pfizer vaccines.

Teodoro also said that the number of people in the facility will be strictly monitored in order to ensure that the room temperature will be around 25 degrees Celsius as much as possible.
