Employees of Angel’s Burger undergo rapid testing

Employees of Angel's Burger in Marikina City were subjected to enhanced targeted testing on July 7, as the local government seeks to ensure that workplaces in the city are free from the new coronavirus.

At least 350 employees of Angel’s Burger underwent rapid testing conducted by the City Health Office, as part of both their efforts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

“Pinipilit natin sa Marikina na maging COVID-free ang mga workplace (We aim to make workplaces in Marikina COVID-free),” Mayor Marcelino Teodoro said in an interview.

The company, whose headquarters are in Marikina, employs 700 workers in the city alone. It also has more than 1,600 burger kiosks nationwide.

As part of the city’s effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus, the local government has taken the initiative to conduct targeted testing on returning workers as more businesses resume operations following the easing of quarantine measures in Metro Manila.

The local government has also conducted rapid testing on returning workers in the shoe industry and other manufacturing industries in the city, tricycle drivers, and public market workers.
“Nakikita natin ang pangangailangang ibalanse ang biosafety at economic viability ng activities sa lungsod (We see the need to balance the biosafety and economic viability of activities in the city),” Teodoro said.

The local government has moved to strengthen its healthcare delivery system by building its own molecular diagnostic laboratory to ramp up testing, as well as build more temporary quarantine facilities to improve its health facilities’ capacity.

For his part, Angel’s Burger President Carl Angelo Mojica said they are complying with the required health and safety standards in their day-to-day operations.

He explained that every time they conduct testing, they coordinate with the City Health Office to ensure that they are within the safety protocols.

“Kaming mga kompanya, nasa private sectors, sumusunod lang din kasi maganda naman ‘yung mga programang hinihingi ng Marikina City (We in the company, in the private sectors, we are just following the guidelines because the programs that Marikina City ask us to follow are good),” he said.

“I think sila rin ang isa sa mga pinaka-maganda ang programa (they are one of those with the best programs). I think we are in good hands, especially with Marikina City.”

The mayor said Angel’s Burger has been helping the city by providing personal protective equipment for the city’s frontliners, as well as supporting the local government’s campaign to strictly observe the health protocols under the new normal.

“This is a whole-of-government and whole-of-community approach na ginagawa natin (that we are doing),” Teodoro said.
