Marikina achieves 92% vaccination rate among target population
About 92 percent or 315,000 out of the 336,195 total eligible population for the Covid-9 vaccination program in Marikina City are now vaccinated, Mayor Marcelino Teodoro said in a report by Philippine News Agency.
"We have a population of 488,000 more or less, and 70 percent of that population is 342,200. Ito po iyong target natin (This our target) for herd immunity, and we have an eligible population," Teodoro said in a virtual Palace press briefing with Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.
Teodoro said the eligible population is represented by 18 years old and above that can receive the Covid-19 vaccine.
He said 54 percent of the target population are fully vaccinated and 38 percent are yet to receive their second doses.
Teodoro attributed the city's positive vaccination report to the "steady and adequate supply of the vaccines that the city is receiving."
"What we have committed to the National Vaccine Operation Center, with Sec. Vince [Dizon], is that we could also help other municipalities and cities nearby Marikina so that we could also help the bubble, the NCR (National Capital Region) bubble, para po iyong target natin talagang herd immunity ay ma-achieve natin (so we can achieve our target herd immunity)," he said.
Teodoro said the city government is just waiting for a go signal from the National Vaccine Operation Center allowing them to vaccinate other residents outside Marikina.
ECQ ayuda payout
Meanwhile, Teodoro said the city government has distributed 58.89 percent of the government financial assistance to families affected by the hard lockdown.
The city has a total of 96,016 individuals listed for the cash aid provision.
Teodoro said around 5,000 to 6,000 residents have appealed to be included in the cash distribution for this month's restrictive quarantine classification.
These residents have lost their jobs during the enhanced community quarantine from March 29 to April 4, he added.
"We hope that we could also provide assistance," he said. "Kung kakasya po iyong galing from the national government ay gagawin po namin. Kung hindi naman po (If funds from the national government are enough, we will provide them. If not), we intend to allocate some funds coming from the local sources."
Teodoro noted there should be a whole of government approach in the Covid-19 pandemic responses between national and local governments.
"Bayanihan pa rin po, similar to what we are having po in our vaccination centers," he said.
