Marikina celebrates Women's Month
In commemoration of International Women's Month, the city of Marikina recognized the importance of women in society by highlighting their strength and excellence through a month-long celebration. The event was spearheaded by Congresswoman Maan Teodoro, who led the lighting of Marikit, a symbol of dignity and justice for women, at Marikina River Park.
The city also participated in the advocacy called ONE BILLION RISING, which aims to uplift women in all aspects of life. The office of Congresswoman Maan partnered with the Marikina City government to provide free medical consultations, dermatological consultations, dental check-ups, eye check-ups, and breast examinations. Reading glasses, dental kits, vitamins, medicines, and vouchers for free Papsmear were also distributed to those who needed them.
In addition, free haircuts, eyebrow threading, manicures, pedicures, and massages were provided to solo mothers and women in various communities. The women of Vergara HOA were not left behind as they underwent training on fire prevention and suppression led by BFP-Marikina to increase their knowledge and abilities in the field.
Regular programs such as free medical and health care assistance and services for pregnant women and their babies (Buntis Congress, free vaccine against cervical cancer and gynecological tests, pediatric clinic, and more) were also given emphasis.
The participation of women in governance and societal development is vital. They are the reason why programs that strengthen the capacity and welfare of women are given importance and priority. Marikina City's celebration of women's month is a testament to its commitment to empowering women and ensuring their rights are recognized and upheld.
