Teodoro lifts ban on Marikina River fishing
Mayor Marcy Teodoro lifted the fishing ban in Marikina River.
This, after the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) reported that the fish in the river were deemed safe and unaffected by the African swine fever (ASF) based on their studies.
Teodoro, together with personnel from the City Health Office, City Management Office, and River Parks Authority, met with the Marikina Anglers Association (Samahan ng mga Mangingisda) to relay the good news to the city's fisherfolk.
The Laguna Lake Development Authority also conducted a similar study and found its waters to be safe from ASF contamination.
Last month, the local government implemented a ban on fishing due to public health concern that the water might be contaminated by the ASF virus after some 56 dead pigs were found floating in the river.
